Kolbe’s reaction / Carboxylation reaction

Kolbe’s reaction / Carboxylation reaction

When phenol reacts with NaOH gives Sodium phenoxide.

Then, Sodium phenoxide reacts with carbondioxide to give sodium salicylic acid and which upon reaction with HCL gives Salicylic acid.

Salicylic acid on reaction with acetyl chloride or ethanoyl chloride gives aspirin.
This overall reaction is known as Kolbe's reaction. It is also known as Carboxylation reaction.
