Oxo process (Carbonylation reaction )

Oxo process

When an alkene reacts with water gas [CO + CO2] in the presence of dicobalt octacarbonyl [Co(CO)4]2 gives aldehyde. This aldehyde upon reduction gives alcohol. This reaction is known as Oxo process. This reaction is also known as carbonylation reaction due to addition of the (-CO-) group in the product side of the reaction.
