Dehydrohalogenation reaction

When a haloalkane reacts with alco. KOH then dehydrohalogenation and dehalogenation occurs to produce an alkene. In this reaction, halogen of the alpha carbon and a hydrogen of beta carbon is removed producing an alkene. This reaction is known as dehydrohalgenation reaction. It is also known as alpha beta elimination reaction. An example of dehydrohalogen reaction is illustrated below.
