IELTS Lesson #1 - Test Overview

IELTS refers to “International English Language Testing System”.

IELTS Listening

Listening IELTS

IELTS Listening consists of 4 sections. Each of these sections consists of 10 questions. That means IELTS Listening has 40 questions in total.

Questions : 40, Time : 30 minutes (Approximately ) (Track) plus 10 minutes extra time to transfer your answers to the real answer sheet.

The sections in IELTS are in the order of difficulty. That means Section 1 is the easiet while Section 4 is relatively the difficult one.

IELTS Reading

IELTS READING

IELTS Reading test consists of 3 passages. In general, the first two passages carry 13 questions each while passage 3 carries 14 questions, making a total of 40 questions.

Questions : 40, Time : 1 hour (Including the time to transfer the answer into the real answer sheet from the question paper )

IELTS Writing Test

 IELTS Writing

IELTS Writing Test includes 2 tasks. The first one is related to explanation of the graphical information like pie-chart, bar graph, table, line graph, flow chart, process, life cycle, map, floor plan, town planning and so on. And, the second one is essay writing.

Writing Task 1

  • Time Allocated ( Not compulsory) : 20 Minutes
  • Word Limitation : 150 Words

Writing Task 2

  • Time Allocated (Not compulsory ) : 40 Minutes
  • Word Limitation : 250 Words

IELTS Speaking Test

IELTS Speaking Test has 3 parts. It lasts for around 14 minutes.

Part 1 of the test is related with the basic introduction, personal information, hobbies, interest, past experiences, work, study, hometown and so on.

In Part 2, the candidate is given a question on a piece of paper and preparation time of 1 minute is provided after that. Then, you are expected to produce a speech of 1 to 2 minutes.

In Part 3, more discussion on questions related to Part 2 is done. You are expected to give slightly long answers as compared to Part 1 of IELTS Speaking test.
