Electrophilic Substitution Reaction in Haloarenes

Haloarenes are ortho-para directing towards electrophilic substitution reaction

Haloarenes are more reactive towards electrophilic substitution reaction. In haloarenes, halogen group is directly attached to the benzene ring. Halogen supplies electrons towards the benzene ring by + Inductive effect as shown in figure. From figure, it is found that electron density is greater in ortho and para carbon. These carbon become appropriate site of electrophilic attacking. This also justifies that halogen group is ortho para directing towards electrophilic substitution reaction.
