Rosenmond’s reduction

Rosenmond’s reduction

When acid chloride or alkanoyl chloride is reduced in the presence of lindlar’s catalyst i.e. Palladium and barium sulphate Pd/BaSO4 to give aldehydes.

This reaction is known as Rosenmond’s reduction.

In this reaction, the lindlar's catalyst prevents the further reduction of the aldehydes into alcohols.
